Travels With Minnie: So Long South Dakota

This might be our all-time favorite Black Hills campground…especially now, before the summer crowds arrive.
We rode the George S. Mickelson Trail, a rail trail we’ve wanted to ride since our first trip here 20 years ago. The Sandy gravel was much harder than we expected it to be.
The 4.5 mile Lover’s Leap Trail in Custer State Park led up up to an amazing lunch viewpoint. We opted to walk back down rather than “pledge our love” with a jump!
The 2.5 mile Willow Creek Trail promised us a waterfall, parts of which were still frozen. Spring is late to arrive in the Black Hills.
Gorgeous drive today through the grasslands of Nebraska.

    Looks great! Makes me want to go back and explore those Black Hills! My brother lived there in the 80’s, working for the USFS so we had a family reunion and hiking time in that beautiful country. Sounds like you are exploring it well with hikes and bikes! How long did it take you to plan out this trip?! You are really getting around!

      We are pretty much planning as we go. So far we’ve been able to reserve 2-4 days ahead. Haven’t had to sleep by the side of the road…yet!
