Camino in France – Are We Stranded?

Day 19 – Cajarc to Limogne-en-Quercy

Sunrise in Cajarc.

We found ourselves trying to outrace the rain today. The weather report didn’t give us much hope as we watched dark clouds drift all around us.

We came around a bend, and just in time for lunch, stumbled upon a wonderfully festive rest stop. A warm welcome and an invitation to sit, whether or not we made a purchase, was an offer we couldn’t refuse. We did buy drinks.

Our clothes get hand washed, rinsed and dried nearly every evening, so this was something we would have liked to give a try.
Tucked into the corner of Limogne’s grocery parking lot was a laundromat. Interesting…

In the grocery store parking lot.

Day 20 – Limogne to Lalbenque

Today was a pretty low-key day. We knew we had about 16-miles to walk to reach Mars de Vers, the spot where we would call our hotel to come pick us up, saving us from an additional 5+mile walk along a busy road.

Mars de Vers, a wide spot on the
Le Puy route.

We were ahead of schedule, the rain had stopped and we found our pick-up spot. But then…numerous calls to the hotel failed. Numerous calls to Verizon, our phone carrier, failed and Reg’s battery was dying. Our last hope was a call to our British travel company. Maybe they could bail us out…I was getting cold!
We were in luck. “Don’t move,” we were told. “A driver will be there in 10 minutes.” I looked at Reg and asked, “Where would we go?”

Rescued and waiting to check in, we found the quintessential Dive Bar in the town of Lalbenque.

It was a rowdy place filled with loud music and a handful of fellows warming up for the evening’s televised Rugby World Cup match. They were all well on their way to a miserable Saturday morning.

We were suddenly best buddies once Reg pointed the camera.
