Fort Ransom Demands Payment

Payment for our 2-night stay at Fort Ransom State Park in North Dakota that is. This jewel of a state park, which takes its name from an 1860 military fort, is situated southwest of Fargo and surrounded by farm and ranch land. The park itself seems to be carved from the tall grasslands that North Dakota is known for.

Our campsite was a winner with a view of nothing but tall grass and leafy trees.

The park boasts twenty miles of hiking trails which meant we had no reason to climb back in the truck in search of entertainment. As we started out, a signpost announced we were on the North Country National Scenic Trail, a 4,800-mile trek that travels through eight states from North Dakota to New York.

This sign felt like a challenge to us. Could we do it? Sadly, not today. We just don’t have the time for 4,800 miles.

We did have time for a less demanding 5-mile walk up through the hillside and along several interconnected park trails behind our campsite.

Tomorrow we will leave the surprisingly beautiful state of North Dakota behind as we continue east. Will Minnesota hold any surprises for us? Buckle up, we’re leaving early!
