Day 7

Oh my gosh, that was a long day! What did we do wrong? When we left San Gimignano we were prepared for a 14-mile day with 2,358 feet of ascent, a bigger/longer day than we like. By the time we finally dragged through the gates of Monteriggioni 8 1/2 hours later, it was 5:15. Reg clocked 19 miles and my GPS recorded 17+ miles. We are tired!

Monteriggioni sits atop a hill in the Siena Province of Tuscany. Built in the 13th century, this completely walled medieval city is so well preserved that, with the exception of some work completed in the 16th century, little has been done to the walls.

As the sun sets, we call it a day. Tomorrow we’ll walk 12 miles to Siena. A little time to sleep in.
