The Cotswold Way-We Climbed Our Last Hill

Day 9

We enjoyed a semi-leisurely morning today, our last day of walking. Tonight we would call it quits in Bath, England, the town known for its Roman-built baths. But first we had that walking to do.

Our first climb of the day took us up, then up some more and then up even more.

Upon reaching the top of our morning climb we discovered a history lesson stretched across the landscape. Lansdown Hill was the site of the first English Civil war. The battle of Lansdown was fought in 1643, beginning in the morning and lasting all day. According to Battlefieldtrust.com, the outcome was inconclusive.
The Cotswold Way led us over the wall that surrounds the battlefield and across it to the opposite side. The slideshow below explains more in detail.

We continued on, passing alongside a golf course before reaching a viewpoint overlooking Bath and the valley below. The end was near.

We finished our trek in front of Bath Abbey, the official ending point of The Cotswold Way. Like all our treks, we are happy to have reached the end and are looking forward to days without walking. But I know tomorrow morning we will wake up and miss the excitement of walking into the unknown.
So, what’s next? Will we do another long walk? Those are tough questions, best left for another day.

We walked into a very crowded Bath and stopped at the Abbey for a quick photo.
