It was reported that Ireland enjoyed the warmest summer on record and that may have been true…up until this week. A cold front arrived just in time for our Sunday drive. Andrew and Charlotte picked us up with plans to tour one of their favorite areas outside of Dublin. First stop – the village of Greystones where we took a blustery walk through the rain along the coast.

Warmer and a little drier, we continued up the Glendalough Valley, stopping at the 6th-century monastic settlement founded by St. Kevin. We explored the ruins of Glendalough Cathedral and St Kevin’s Church and admired acres of old gravestones surrounding the Round Tower. Had the weather been a little nicer, we may have stayed longer. There was so much more to see.

The weather cleared as we drove up and over the Wicklow Mountains, circling back to Dublin at the Sally Gap crossroads. Rain greeted us as we returned to the city, but we were happy to have a small taste of what Irish countryside has to offer. No doubt we will be back to explore more before too long.
