We never intended to stay so long in Fort Bragg, however…we weren’t expecting such a nice campground just south of downtown. We weren’t expecting to find so many interesting coastal and forest hikes. We really weren’t expecting to have such gorgeous weather for the three weeks we’ve been here. Blue skies and little wind have been the norm but now, it’s time to move on.

We gained a new appreciation of the beautiful Fort Bragg/Mendocino Coastline.

The redwood forests were a surprise too. Somehow, in past trips, we’ve completely missed wandering the trails among these ancient giants.

Thanksgiving Day was anything but quiet. We joined a spirited crowd gathered in support for the 12th Annual Turkey Trot. Our canned food donations supported the local food bank (350 pounds of food was collected) and our entrance fee will help support Fort Bragg High School Track & Field and the Mendocino Coast Humane Society…plus, we each got tee shirts.

As our first stop along our (semi-planned) continuous itinerary, we couldn’t have asked more of Fort Bragg. Plenty of nice people, sunny skies and outdoor activities. Today, California’s beautiful Highway 1 awaits as our journey continues.
