Before leaving California, we spent one more day wandering among the giants of Calaveras Big Trees State Park, near Angels Camp in the gold country. The giant sequoias really must be seen to be believed. As I photographed these two trees, named Mother and Son, a parent and child appeared. While it gives a good sense of scale, climbing around the base of the trees is frowned upon.
Our Christmas Eve plans with son and daughter-in-law were blown away by the ferocious rain and wind storm that blew through Northern California. Too dangerous to tow our trailer, were forced to stay an extra two nights in Angels Camp. While Reg slept peacefully, I lay awake, holding my breath each time a gust rocked our trailer.
But all was not lost.

Brad and Ashley found us tickets to a Sacramento Kings game. Andrew and Charlotte made a surprise visit and joined us for an after Christmas celebration. It was “Family Day” at the Golden 1 Center…sponsored by Sesame Street. We got in the spirit and grabbed the free souvenir hats on the way in!

One of our favorite spots along the California Coast is Monterey. It’s become a bit of a yearly pilgrimage for us and we couldn’t resist one more visit to ring in the new year.

Tomorrow we drive south into 2026 and toward Tucson, Arizona where we will park ourselves for a couple of months. Its time to take a deep breath, relax, hike and contemplate our future.
Many thanks to all of you who continue to follow along with us as we navigate and stumble our way through life.
Wishing you all a happy and healthy new year!
