It didn’t last long, our plan to stay in hotels while searching Virginia for a new place to live. The problem is, we pack more than just clothes and toiletries. We bring everything needed for a good cup of pour-over coffee (or two) in the morning, healthy breakfast cereal, milk, paper bowls and plastic utensils. Also, we had several grocery bags of food that couldn’t stay in the trailer. We pretty much move in.
After nearly two weeks of lugging our things in and out of top-floor rooms, we said, “Enough!”

After a bit of exploration, we discovered a beautiful, perfectly located campground with an open spot for us to claim for the months of April and May (if we need it that long). So, last Thursday we made the 2-hour drive to pick up our trailer after just one week in storage. Much relieved, we are already more relaxed, sleeping better and definitely eating better. We’re back home.

The last few days have been a little hectic, but today we took a break, packed a lunch and drove up the road to Natural Chimneys Park & Campground.
The park is home to seven natural limestone wonders that began forming five hundred million years ago when a shallow sea covered the area. Deposits of sediment and remains of ancient sea life compressed over hundreds of million years, forming the layers of rock. Eventually the sea drained, the rocks were pushed upwards and years of wind and rain carved the chimneys we see today.

Fortunately, the campground is closed for the season until May 1st., so we nearly had the 2.5-miles of walking trails to ourselves. The gentle, flat River Trail gave us just a glimpse of the river. The bluebells were the real stars. Another day or two and they will be in full bloom.
