Utah has us seeing red

We figured we'd zip through Zion National Park quickly today since we had spent time camping here not long after we'd married. After thirty years, our memories are obviously failing us. Neither Reg nor I had any recollection of the sights we saw today…beautiful soaring red cliffs around every bend of the road. It was hard to know where to look first.

Parking is at a premium inside the park and spaces fill up by 10:00 a.m. A shuttle system provides transportation along the canyon floor. We took the high road which provided spectacular scenery. The bottom right photo shows the opening of a long, dark tunnel that took us through the cliffs.

Pictures don't quite capture the true color and size of these amazing sand dunes. The top photo shows a massive dune that several people, both young and old, were sliding down. From the overlook, they appear as little black specs in the sand.

Reg and I hiked to the top — just to say we did — and that's where the bottom photo was taken. The wind was blowing like crazy. We had been warned to hang on to phones, wallets, earrings…anything of value that the monster dune might gobble up!
