The first day is moving: Camino de Santiago

A bright day with sunny spells greeted us on our first day on the Camino Frances, although there was some slogging through the muddy remains of a wet spring. We started in Pamplona and climbed, often on a quite rocky trail, to the spectacular vantage point for Sue and her fellow trekkers above. Many signs in various forms, including in the sidewalk in Pamplona, guided our way. We found a small hostel and have met people from Denmark, Ireland, Australia, Brazil, Germany, and Florida over cafe con leche and, later, cervezas and wine. It is nearly time for our first pilgrim meal with the 20 or so staying here in Uterga. Just one day in and the Camino spirit is powerful.

    1. Great to hear from you! So far, so good. We called it a day today just as the rain began to fall. What a great choice of hostels. Interesting people of all ages.

    1. Hi Alex!
Thanks for your note and wishes.
We crossed several bridges today, but we have not seen the one where Martin Sheen’s backpack fell into the river.
Day two is recorded; showers, cervezas, dinner and wine await!
      Best always, Reg

    1. Hi Kathleen,
Thank you! We are finished with the second day; it was amazingly beautiful, but lots of hills. We found a wonderful hostel with a restaurant and bar in a picturesque hilltop village. The host was most welcoming. Showers, then some cervezas!

We had another hilly day, but the views were fantastic. Several Roman ruins, including an arch bridge. So far, mostly sooooo good!

A bit warmer than Glen Clova I would think. A great adventure. Malcolm & Barbara.

    1. Hi Malcolm and Barbara!
A bit (actually much) warmer, the walk is farther and we are much older. But, we have finished day two and the Camino is about to provide some much-anticipated refreshment in the bar downstairs from our room!
      Cheers, Reg and Sue
