Camino in France – Away We Go

Our packs are packed and ready to go. We’ll carry everything we need for our journey.

We’re doing it – another European distance trek. Our bags are packed and France awaits. After a short stay in Paris for a bit of jet lag recuperation, we will travel to the southern town of Le Puy-en-Velay where our walk begins.
Known for locally grown crops of green lentils, Le Puy is also the starting point for the Via Podiensis or Chemin du Puy, a 500 mile (750 km) portion of the GR65 leading through France to the border town of Saint-John-Pied-de-Port, a popular starting point for Spain’s Camino Francés. That is our destination.

Map of the Via Podiensis in France. The red hiking figures represent some of the towns, villages or locations along the route where lodging and various services are available.

With the help of GPS, our pre-booked lodgings and route are all pinpointed on our Guru maps app. We have high hopes that the little blue Guru dot that bobs along and represents us as we walk will prevent any bothersome wrong turns. Daily treks will vary from 7-17 miles (11-27 km), give or take, and we’ve allowed ourselves 3 rest days along the route. I hope that will be enough to revive our tired feet!

  6. We look forwards to following you all the way. We did it in two yearly stages – 2012&2013 I think. Great memories. France is the best Camino country – the locals living along the way are fully aware of the important role they play in welcoming and encouraging us wayfarers.
    Bon Camino
