Described as an “apple core” because of the unique shape, the Cape Forchu Lighthouse soars 98 feet above Yarmouth Harbor.
Energetic visitors are challenged to climb the 77 steps to the top for a 360° view. We chose to pass on the invitation, opting instead to enjoy the views from ground level.

Information boards posted along a short walk through the 19 acre park illustrate the area history. Seating is available throughout the grounds, offering plenty of opportunity to relax and enjoy the views. A small museum and a cafe are housed in the base of the lighthouse. We caught a whiff of frying bacon the morning we were there, so you might want to pack your appetite.
Movie buffs may recognize the location. The Lighthouse, a 2018 feature film starring Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson, was filmed in the park.

Several days ago we made a last minute change of plans. Reg got out his trusty yellow pad and began adding up numbers. I knew something was up. And so we found ourselves on the ferry from Digby, Nova Scotia across the Bay of Fundy to St. John, New Brunswick, trailer in tow, saving ourselves two days of driving and a couple expensive tanks of gas. The cost – pretty much a wash, good news for Reg who wasn’t looking forward to backtracking through a good part of Nova Scotia.
That is also how we found ourselves boondocking in a Walmart parking lot with three other cheapskates in RVs. How many more will join us overnight?
