After three plane flights, a train ride and a 25-minute walk to our Bed & Breakfast, we arrived in Florence, Italy for a two night recuperation stay.

Several months ago I stumbled upon a blog post by the Jetsetting Fools featuring a free walking tour in Florence. Perfecto! I stashed it in our Italy email folder. Today we opened it up and followed the provided map that led us on a treasure hunt throughout the Oltrarno district of Florence.

The landmark Pitti Palace required a panorama shot to fit, resulting in the curved appearance. It is a spectacularly large…the Medici family must have had a tremendous amount of help!

The Boboli Gardens, located on a hillside behind Pitti Palace, were once the private gardens belonging to the Medici family. Adjacent to the gardens is Forte di Belvedere, built in the late 1500s.

This district of Florence is a great alternative to the more popular sites across the Arno River. There’s plenty more to see and no shortage of spots for food and refreshments.
If you’re a jettsetting (link) fool, or one or the other, this tour might fill a day for you too.
