We got off to a drippy start on our first big night out in St Andrews. Friends from England, Jude and Ian, happened to be van-camping right up the road from our rental house, so Ian organized us on a dinner hour hunt for the best fish and chips in St Andrews. Without a reservation on a Saturday night, our hopes were dashed when we were turned away from Ian’s first choice. No matter, we persevered and found a lively spot serving live music with plates of fish and chips.

We did some more touring around our old neighborhood when we met friends Carole and Beaton for a walk. The Fife Coastal Path follows along the River Tay, a portion that was not yet completed when we lived there.

We had a free day and the weather was beautiful so we wandered round the Old Course, considered the oldest golf course in the world. We couldn’t help but take the time to play 18 holes on the Himalayas, a course that holds many memories for us.
There is no shortage of sights to see. We’ve wandered through town several times, past St Andrews Castle and through the University.
We were thrilled to meet up with another group of friends who took us under their wings when we moved to Scotland all those years ago. Reg and I have such fond memories of our get-togethers…of conversations filled with laughter, much of it aimed at our feeble attempts to negotiate the subtleties of the Scottish culture.

And so our time in Scotland draws to an end. We will pack up our suitcases and hoist our packs once more Monday morning when we head to Edinburgh to catch the train to London and the long flight home.
Many thanks and much love to all our friends who continue to welcome us after all these years. A big thank you to all of you, our readers, who have followed along with us, up and down every hill. We’re heading home to rest our feet, but we will be back with more sun and fun soon.
