It was time to plan a short escape from our 26’ home on wheels. Before officially entering into our eighth month of trailer living, we needed a break. After searching the internet, Reg got out his pad of lined paper and began one of the famous lists he creates when he wants to convince me to splurge on something…something that he knows I will deem too expensive.

Newspapers called it the Grandest Hotel in the nation when The William Penn Hotel opened in March of 1916. Known today as the Omni William Penn Hotel, we were struck by the turn-of-the-century grandeur upon entering the lobby. Over the years the hotel has played host to royalty, celebrities, and numerous prominent public figures, including every sitting U.S. president from Theodore Roosevelt to Barack Obama.
It’s no surprise it earned a spot on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

We set out on foot Saturday morning. With no real plan, aside from Reg’s list, we were curious to see what we’d discover. Because a picture is worth a thousand words, I’ll let the photos do the talking.

Would we recommend adding Pittsburgh to your short break list? Absolutely! We could have easily filled another day or two…especially if we had been willing to drive or Uber to outlying areas.
