Our Via Francigena Begins

The journey gets real. We arrived in Lucca, Italy today where our Via Francigena begins on Friday – tomorrow.
With help from an incredible taxi driver (he refused to leave us stranded), we left luggage at the appointed spot, a dingy bicycle shop attached to a car park garage, where the Friday pick-up driver will transfer them to our next lodging. Fingers crossed they get there. I’ll let you know if we ever see them again!

We picked up our Pilgrim passports and will have all our accommodations add their stamp as we make our way to Rome. We immediately wished we had booked an extra day here. Rain hampered our investigation of this city with so much incredible architecture and history. We realize that we’ve missed so much.
However, we made the best of our short, rainy stay with a night out on the town.

Packing in the carbs early, not a bad idea.

    Way to go…….

    1. Probably need to ease up on the carbs for fear of outgrowing our hiking outfits!
