Small-town Texas was on display today as we drove southeast to the Hill Country, where we are staying for a few days at the By the River RV park in Kerrville. Our site is on the Guadalupe River and spring green is the color of the month. What a view for happy hour! It is quite a change from the stark desert scenery of western Texas and much of our journey through Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico.
Brady, the geographical center of the Lone Star state, and Mason were welcome chances to walk and soak up the atmosphere.

You must go to the Nimitz Pacific war museum, and then on to President Johnson’s farm. Wonderful barbecue and the 2-step!

Snow on Grizzly Peak today…still winter here…looks wonderfully warm there!

It has been warm most of the trip. We have talked to snowbirds from the Northwest and Canada all along our route. They drive massive RVs down here, many of them every year. Some volunteer in the national park system.

I’d second the War in the Pacific Museum up in Fredericksburg. Worth the trip just for the flame thrower demonstration. Avoid BBQ there though and head up to Mason or Llano and go to Coopers. The one in Llano is better but they are both great. My best friend is from Rochelle, out near Brady and we hit the one in Llano whenever I go out there.

Nancy and I enjoyed Fredericksburg in the hill country. We also visited some fun wineries nearby when I was visiting them in San Antonio.
